Description
Viola cornuta ‘Rose Blotch,’ commonly known as the Horned Violet, is a charming perennial renowned for its distinctive, softly ruffled flowers that display a delicate rose-pink hue accented by a striking darker rose blotch at the center. Native to the mountainous regions of the Pyrenees in Spain and France, this species has been cultivated widely for its extended blooming season, often flowering from spring through fall. The “horned” aspect refers to the small spurs on the back of the petals, a unique characteristic that distinguishes it from other violets. Viola cornuta is appreciated for its versatility in garden design, thriving in well-drained soils and partial shade, and is often used in borders, containers, and as ground cover. Its compact growth habit and ability to attract pollinators like bees and butterflies add ecological value to ornamental landscapes. This cultivar’s refined coloration and reliable performance have made it a favorite among gardeners and landscape professionals alike.
