Description
Viola x Wittrockiana ‘Grandio True Blue’ is a striking cultivar of the garden pansy, celebrated for its large, vibrant blue blooms with a velvety texture and a classic dark face marking that creates a dramatic contrast. Originating from hybridization efforts in the 19th century by Swedish gardener Veit Wittrock, these pansies were developed to enhance flower size, color richness, and cold tolerance beyond that of wild species. ‘Grandio True Blue’ exemplifies these advancements with its robust growth habit, making it an excellent choice for cool-season color in garden beds, containers, and borders. This variety thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soils, exhibiting excellent adaptability and prolonged blooming periods in mild climates. Known for their versatility and charming aesthetic appeal, Grandio pansies continue to be favored by gardeners and landscape professionals alike. They have been recognized in horticultural circles for their exceptional flower size and vivid coloration, contributing to the ongoing popularity and esteem of the Viola x Wittrockiana group in ornamental horticulture.
