Description
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Alouette’, commonly known as Ninebark, is a compact, deciduous shrub prized for its striking foliage and multi-season interest. Originating from North America, this cultivar features deeply lobed, rich purple to burgundy leaves that provide a dramatic contrast in the garden throughout the growing season. In late spring to early summer, ‘Alouette’ produces airy clusters of small, creamy-white flowers that attract pollinators and add delicate texture. The shrub’s exfoliating bark, peeling in layers to reveal a mottled pattern, offers ornamental appeal well into winter. Renowned for its exceptional disease resistance and heat tolerance compared to other ninebarks, ‘Alouette’ is a versatile, low-maintenance choice suitable for hedges, borders, and foundation plantings. It has been recognized by horticultural organizations for its superior landscape performance and vibrant foliage color.
