Alyssum montanum ‘Luna’ Madwort is a charming, low-growing perennial known for its vibrant, golden-yellow blooms that create a striking carpet of color in rock gardens, borders, and containers. Native to the mountainous regions of Europe, Alyssum montanum has long been prized for its drought tolerance, adaptability to poor, well-drained soils, and its ability to thrive in full sun. ‘Luna’ is a standout cultivar within the species, valued for its particularly bright and abundant flowers that bloom profusely in late spring to early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its dense, mounding habit and evergreen, gray-green foliage provide year-round visual interest as well as erosion control on slopes. Alyssum montanum has a horticultural history dating back to early European gardening traditions, where it was appreciated for groundcover and rock garden use. The ‘Luna’ variety exemplifies the species’ hardiness and ornamental appeal, making it a favored choice among gardeners seeking a durable, low-maintenance perennial with vibrant, long-lasting color.
