Description
Ligularia dentata ‘Midnight Lady,’ commonly known as Leopard Plant, is a striking perennial valued for its dramatic dark foliage and bold presence in shade gardens. Distinguished by its large, rounded leaves that showcase deep purple to nearly black hues with contrasting green veins, this cultivar adds a unique tropical and architectural element to shaded or partially shaded landscapes. Originating from the genus Ligularia native to moist, temperate regions of Asia, ‘Midnight Lady’ has been selectively bred for enhanced ornamental foliage and vigorous growth. In summer, it produces tall spikes of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers that rise above the foliage, providing visual contrast and interest. This plant thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is particularly effective in woodland gardens, along water features, or in mixed perennial borders where shade and moisture are abundant. Its distinct coloration and robust performance have made it popular among gardeners seeking bold foliage texture and color contrast, contributing to its recognition by various horticultural societies for landscape merit.
