Description
Begonia Semperflorens ‘Double Up Red Bronze Leaf’ is a striking variety of the ever-popular wax begonia, celebrated for its vibrant red double blooms that contrast beautifully against its rich bronze foliage. This compact, upright annual thrives in both sun and partial shade, making it a versatile choice for garden beds, containers, and borders. Originating from the species Begonia semperflorens, which has been cultivated since the 19th century for its reliable flowering and glossy leaves, the ‘Double Up’ series is notable for its double-flower trait, offering fuller, more showy blossoms than typical wax begonias. The bronze leaf adds a unique ornamental appeal, giving gardeners an added textural and color dimension beyond the typical green foliage. This cultivar was developed through careful hybridization to enhance flower form and foliage color intensity. It performs well in warm climates with good moisture, resisting heat and humidity stress better than many other begonias. Recognized for its impressive bloom longevity and vibrant appearance, this plant is a favorite among landscapers and home gardeners alike, often highlighted in ornamental plant trials and summer flower showcases.
