Description
Viola x Wittrockiana ‘Majestic Giants II Purple Blotch’ is a striking cultivar of the classic garden pansy, renowned for its large, vibrant blooms featuring a deep purple blotch contrasting vividly against a lighter purple background. This hardy biennial or short-lived perennial is prized for its robust growth habit, extended bloom time from early spring through fall, and excellent cold tolerance, making it a favorite for cool-season color in beds, containers, and borders. Originating from the hybridization of various Viola species in the 19th century, including Viola tricolor and Viola altaica, the ‘Majestic Giants’ series enhances traditional pansy traits with larger flowers and more intense coloration. The ‘Purple Blotch’ variety is especially valued for its dramatic face-like markings, which add visual interest and a cheerful presence to garden landscapes. Cultivars in this group have been widely recognized for their garden performance and have contributed significantly to pansy breeding programs aimed at improving flower size, color vibrancy, and plant vigor.
