Description
Verbena x hybrida ‘Empress Flair Red Vervain’ is a striking hybrid cultivar known for its vibrant, fiery red blooms that create a bold statement in any garden setting. This perennial plant, often grown as an annual in cooler climates, is prized for its long-lasting, profuse flowering from late spring through fall, attracting pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds. ‘Empress Flair Red’ features a compact, mounded growth habit with dark green, slightly serrated leaves, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and mass plantings. The hybrid verbena lineage traces back to crosses primarily between Verbena rigida and Verbena peruviana species, developed to enhance bloom size, color intensity, and disease resistance. Its vigorous growth and heat tolerance make it well-suited for sunny locations with well-drained soil. This cultivar exemplifies the advancements in ornamental breeding that have elevated verbena’s popularity in ornamental horticulture.
