Description
Cotoneaster × suecicus ‘Emerald Sprite’ is a compact, low-growing evergreen shrub prized for its dense, glossy green foliage and fine-textured, mounding habit. This hybrid, resulting from a cross between Cotoneaster species, was developed to provide excellent ground cover with ornamental appeal, combining tolerance to a range of soil types and climates, particularly favoring cooler temperate regions. ‘Emerald Sprite’ is valued for its versatility in landscape design, thriving in full sun to partial shade and offering exceptional drought resistance once established. It produces small, inconspicuous flowers followed by bright red berries that attract birds and add seasonal interest. Its neat, slow-spreading growth habit makes it ideal for erosion control, foundation planting, and as a living mulch in garden beds. The cultivar’s hardiness and low maintenance requirements have made it a popular choice among landscapers and gardeners seeking an evergreen groundcover with year-round appeal.
